Surferswind is an AI-assisted wind forecast service for kiteboarding, windsurfing, and wingfoiling in the Netherlands. This page explains what personal data we process and how you can control it.

Who we are

Surferswind (“we”, “us”) operates the website and mobile apps at surferswind.com. For privacy questions, use the support page.

Data we collect

When you create an account or use Surferswind, we may process:

Account details: email address and password (stored hashed).
Forecast preferences: sports, skill level, language, notification settings.
Tracked surf spots and generated personal forecast digests.
Chat messages: the questions you type into the forecast chat and the generated answers, kept so the conversation persists and so we can review reported answers.
Reports you submit about a generated answer, including the flagged text and your reason.
Subscription status: whether Surferswind Pro is active, which store it came from, and the renewal date. We never see or store your card details.
Push notification tokens for web and mobile devices (if you opt in).
Technical data: session cookies and basic server logs needed to run the service.

How we use your data

We use your data to provide personalised wind forecasts, send optional digest notifications, and improve the service. Forecast text is session advice for windsports — not professional meteorological or safety-critical guidance.

Third-party services

We rely on external providers for weather, maps, and AI summaries:

Wind forecast data: KNMI via Open-Meteo.
Surf spot data: OpenStreetMap. Map tiles: CARTO.
AI-generated forecast text and chat answers: Google Gemini. The questions you type in the chat, together with your forecast context, are sent to Google to produce a reply.
Subscription handling: RevenueCat, together with the Apple App Store or Google Play. They tell us whether your subscription is active; payment details stay with the store.
Email delivery and mobile push may use additional infrastructure providers configured for our deployment.

We pass spot coordinates and weather context to these services as needed to generate forecasts. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers.

Retention

We keep account and preference data while your account is active. Server logs are retained only as long as needed for operations and security.

Your rights and account deletion

You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time. In the mobile app, use Settings → Account → Delete account. On the web, use the link below:

Delete my Surferswind account

When you confirm deletion, we remove your account, preferences, tracked spots, chat history, push tokens, and personal digests from our systems. This action is permanent.

Deleting your account does not cancel a Surferswind Pro subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play. Cancel it in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings as well, otherwise the store keeps billing you.

Depending on your location, you may also have rights to access, correct, or restrict processing of your data. Ask for help on the support page.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
